Roll or sheet?

Roll labels feed an applicator and suit any kind of production line. Sheet labels are applied by hand and cost less to make in small quantities. If you are labelling by hand today but plan to automate, tell us — the artwork and die are easier to plan once than to redo.

Sticker and label printing in Lahore — material, adhesive and die

A label is three decisions, and only one of them is the artwork. The face material is what you see and print on: paper for economy, polypropylene for durability and moisture resistance, clear film for the no-label look, metallised for a foil effect. The adhesive underneath is chosen for the surface and the conditions — a permanent adhesive on a glass jar behaves nothing like one on a frozen carton or a textured plastic bottle. The liner is what carries the label until it is applied.

Then there is the shape. Labels are contour cut on a die, so a shape can be anything you draw. Standard shapes on existing dies cost nothing extra; a bespoke shape means a new cutting die, which is a one-off tool cost that becomes cheaper on every reorder. That is worth knowing before design begins rather than after.

Roll labels are supplied wound on a core and suit hand or machine application at any volume; the wind direction matters if they are going onto an applicator, so we ask. Sheet labels are simpler and cheaper for small runs applied by hand. Sticker sheets with multiple designs kiss-cut on one page are a different product again, and popular for retail and promotional work.

For regulated products the label is part of the compliance chain, not just branding. Pharmaceutical labels for vials, bottles and ampoules are printed to your approved artwork under version control, and where a barcode or DataMatrix has to scan reliably, the substrate, the varnish and the print contrast all matter as much as the code itself.

We also print vinyl stickers for indoor and outdoor use, transparent and hologram labels, barcode and variable-data labels, tamper-evident seals, and hang tags. Where labels and packaging are part of the same product, running both here means one colour reference across the whole pack rather than two suppliers guessing at the same brand blue.

How the label will be applied shapes the specification more than most buyers expect. Hand application is forgiving, so sheets or loose-cut labels are fine. An applicator is not: it needs a roll wound in the right direction, a consistent gap between labels, a core size it can take, and a liner strong enough not to break at speed. Deciding this once, before the die is made, is far cheaper than rewinding an entire order later. If you label by hand today but plan to automate, say so at the quoting stage.

Artwork for labels has one trap worth naming. A curved surface distorts a design — text set close to the top or bottom edge of a bottle label appears to bow once wrapped, and a label that meets itself around a small jar needs deliberate overlap so the join does not cut through a word or a barcode. We check for this at prepress, and our artwork guidelines set out the safety margins to work to.

Questions

Questions about labels & stickers

Anything not answered here, ask us directly — we would rather talk it through than have you guess.

Product and packaging labels, roll and sheet labels, vinyl stickers for indoor and outdoor use, transparent and hologram labels, barcode and variable-data labels, pharmaceutical labels, tamper-evident seals and hang tags.

Roll labels feed an applicator and suit any production line; if they are going onto a machine, the wind direction matters and we will ask. Sheet labels are applied by hand and cost less in small quantities.

Paper for economy and dry indoor use. Polypropylene for moisture, chilled and outdoor conditions. Clear film for a no-label look on glass or plastic. Metallised for a foil effect. The surface it sticks to and the conditions it lives in decide it.

Yes — labels are contour cut on a die, so any shape you can draw is possible. Standard shapes use existing dies at no extra cost; a bespoke shape needs a new die, which is a one-off tool cost that gets cheaper on every reorder.

Quantity, size, material, number of colours, finishing and whether a new die is needed. Labels are usually quoted per thousand, and the price per label falls sharply with quantity because the die and set-up are fixed costs.

Yes. Sequential numbering, QR codes and GS1 DataMatrix can be printed with variable data so every label is unique. Where a code has to scan reliably, the substrate, the varnish and the print contrast matter as much as the code itself.

Yes — labels for vials, bottles and ampoules, printed to your approved artwork under version control. See pharmaceutical labels.
